Borneo

We arrived in Borneo, and this is one of the most beautiful ports we had seen yet. As we disembarked the ship, native islanders greeted us with drums and singing, and some of the native women put beaded necklaces around our necks, much like people are greeted with leis in Hawaii.

The drive toward the national park we were going to visit was beautiful – we passed some local mosques and saw the beauty of the island.

We arrived in the national park region and saw the majestic Mount Kinabalu (13,513 feet), a UNESCO world heritage site. Beautiful!!!

In the botanical garden, we saw tons of beautiful flowers, and many different varieties of wild orchids. The one pictured here has a nectar that is used to treat malaria.

We walked through the jungle, and it reminded me so much of the Amazon. It was extremely beautiful, and while it was very humid, it was not nearly as hot as many of the other places we've been in Southeast Asia, probably because we were at a somewhat high altitude.

The mountainous landscape really reminded me a lot of Ecuador, and Borneo is also located along the equator. We really loved this beautiful place.
