Yesterday we arrived in mainland China, in the city of Xi'an. It's right in the center of the county, and it's got a huge wall surrounding the old city.

After seeing some of the city, we went to the outskirts of the town to see the excavation site of the famous "Terra Cotta Warriors". Brian had seen some of these when he was young when they had brought some of the statues to Dublin, but nothing compares to seeing all of them at once in the place where they were discovered.

We had lunch in a nearby restaurant which was surrounded by some incredible scenery:

After lunch we went through some shops and saw some cool items, like some of the tallest vases we'd ever seen!

Then we went back to the city again and to see the Wild Goose Pagoda, which leans a little bit (like the tower in Pisa!).

The pagoda was surrounded by some gorgeous architecture and buddhist monuments.

We touched Buddha for good luck!

After checking into our hotel, we went to a large ornate theater for a very nice authentic Chinese dinner followed by a showcase of ancient culture and music. The instruments, songs, dances and costumes were all from the era of the Tang dynasty, and the experience was incredible.

When we finally got back to the hotel we slept really soundly but had to get up again in only a few hours for our flight to Beijing!
